#DontTrashTech School Challenge

Join Ontario EcoSchools, eCycle Solutions, and Best Buy Canada in the reduction of e-waste in our community!

Millions of pounds of electronic waste go to landfills each year when they could be recycled. Electronics often contain toxic chemicals like lead, cadmium, and mercury. When you throw them away, they end up in landfill sites and those poisons can end up in the environment.

EcoSchools, Best Buy Canada and their secure, trusted recycling partner eCycle Solutions are running a campaign that provides a free, convenient and secure way for you to recycle your unwanted electronics.

Students at schools in the Greater Golden Horseshoe are invited to bring personal unwanted electronics to their nearest participating Best Buy store between May 24th – June 2nd for FREE secure recycling.

In addition to helping the environment, each participating student will have a chance to win a $500 Best Buy gift card! Plus, one of the first 25 schools to register will have the chance to win a $500 Best Buy gift card, and an additional $500 Best Buy gift card will be awarded to one lucky school via a random draw.

But that’s not all…the school with the highest average number of items per student collected will win a $2,500 Best Buy gift card (i.e. 350 students and 920 items received = 2.63 avg)!

How it works:

  1. Register your school online for the #DontTrashTech School Challenge.
  2. Bring your unwanted electronics to your nearest participating Best Buy store between May 24th and June 2nd – ask your friends, neighbours and family members if they have any electronics they’d like recycled. Please note that this contest is intended for personal e-waste. Ask your school board if you have an in-house recycler for board-owned items so these don’t end up in landfill!
  3. When dropping off your item(s), have a Best Buy employee give you a ballot for each item you drop off.
  4. Bring your ballots back to your school to collect, and mail them in one envelope to:

eCycle Solutions Inc, 7510 Bren Road, Mississauga ON, L4T 4H1

The last day to postmark your ballots to eCycle Solutions to remain eligible is June 10, 2019.

The more items you bring to Best Buy, the more ballots you will receive and the greater your chances of winning!
