Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors is made up of passionate professionals dedicated to helping EcoSchools fulfill its mission and work toward the vision of Every School an EcoSchool.  They guide the organization in adopting sound, ethical, and legal procedures and policies.

Ron Ballentine, Chair

Retired, former HDSB Instructional Coordinator for Environmental Education

Ron Ballentine is the former Halton DSB Instructional Coordinator for Environmental Education, and is one of the founding members of the Ontario EcoSchools program. He continues to work with the Back To Nature Network and provide Outdoor Experiential Education workshops. He is a member of the Environment Hamilton Board of Directors and has years of expertise developing inquiry-based learning workshops for teacher federations, boards, subject associations and NGOs.


Meredith James, Director

Environmental Solicitor, City of Toronto

Meredith is an environmental lawyer with a background in environmental biology. She provides advice in all areas of environmental law, including regulatory compliance with federal, provincial and municipal environmental law. Prior to law school, Meredith received a B.Sc. in Environmental Biology from the University of Alberta. Meredith is the former President of the Board of Directors of Cycle Toronto. She has over a decade of experience on nonprofit and charitable boards at municipal, provincial and national levels.


Steven Pacifico, Secretary

EPIC Investment Strategy, Sustainability Lead

Steven Pacifico is an energetic and motivated sustainability practitioner with over 15 years experience working in the environmental and sustainability sector—working with corporations, government, and NGOs.  Steven’s experience has focused on helping organizations to develop their sustainability and stakeholder engagement visions and strategies; to identify key risks, priorities and business cases; and to engage and communicate information to key stakeholders with regards to sustainability issues.
