Eco-Friendly Morning Announcements

Lauren Hammond, a grade 12 student at Sydenham High School, and a "Minister of Communications", has found an eco-friendly solution to writing PA announcements on paper that end up being discarded.

Lauren knew there had to be a more eco-friendly way of doing things, but wanted to keep the system as user-friendly as possible.

"I was able to find small, white board material tiles at Staples. I cut the tiles into small squares (14 cm x 14 cm), just large enough for a regular announcement to fit. The tiles can be easily wiped off after the announcement has been read. This way no paper is wasted and staff and students can still deliver their messages. It may seem small in the big scheme of things, but I figure that everyone can do their part."

Lauren estimates that Sydenham has reduced the amount of full sheets of paper used by 100 sheets per month.
