Thank you to everyone who sent in their "good idea for 100 bookmarks". We received some great ideas on how to use the new Ontario EcoSchools bookmarks and we will be sending out bookmarks to the participating schools next week.
St. Patrick in Ajax has three environmental incentives for which we they would award a bookmark prize:
"We have a golden dustpan award for classes that achieve the highest percentage of students with a completely litterless lunch and snack on Trashfree Tuesdays. They would award the classes in each division a bookmark prize.
Secondly, on April 22, Earth Day we will be providing prizes to students wearing green.
Thridly, we are regularly monitoring the classes that keep their lights and computers and monitors off when not needed. These classes would earn an award."

DSB has a recycling program at the school, a gardening club and run a spring cleanup around the school yard with student volunteers.
"I hand out bookmarks during the year to students who have done something special to reward and encourage them to be good citizens of our school. I would love to be able to give out bookmarks to encourage and reward our students for being good citizens of our planet."
Pickering High School would ask students to bring in a used magazine or book in exchange for a bookmark. The magazines would be used in the art department and the books for their 'Fever Friday' reading.
"We would also put the bookmarks in circulating 'environmental' library books."
Christ the King Catholic Secondary School, in Halton Catholic DSB, proposes that their library could stock some of the bookmarks at the circulation desk, so that when students sign out a book, they receive one.
"Furthermore, classroom teachers could be given a stash of the bookmarks that they may pass out at their discretion – to avid readers, for good behavior, for recycling, turning lights out, modeling good citizenship, etc.
Not only will the bookmarks hold the place for the reader, but they will prevent the frequent damage caused by turning down or folding pages to keep place. This way, our books will last longer – for others to continue to reuse and enjoy and they will not need to be replaced."
The Falgarwood Public School Eco-Club in the Halton DSB will be hosting an Eco-booth at their school Fun Fair in June. "These book marks would be a great prize to hand out to all who come to check out our booth!"
