Getting Started - School Community
Download the Introduction to EcoSchools and the 5 Step Process to read about how to create an EcoTeam. Your school may already have a Recycling or Gardening Club; the EcoTeam may be built from an existing group focused on environmental initiatives. Go through the Program Guides and Curriculum Resources to decide where your school will begin. Check the FAQ section of this website for information too.

We strongly emphasize starting small and doing it well.  Perhaps in the first year, as the EcoTeam is created and becomes familiar with the EcoReviews, your school will choose to simply focus on energy conservation or waste minimization.  The annual certification process is open to any Ontario school that uses the program, but many schools do not set certification as their goal in the first year of using the program.  It’s up to you!

If you would like to become a certified EcoSchool you can read about certification and register at the beginning of the school year at our online certification application.

Contact your Board's EcoSchool Rep
Contact your board’s EcoSchools representative for support and information on how your board and local partnerships support EcoSchools. EcoSchools is most effective when there is senior level support from your school board but it's not essential. If you would like more information about board representatives, contact us at info (at) ontarioecoschools.org.
