Step 1: Establish your school’s EcoTeam and register your school at certapp.ontarioecoschools.org.
(All schools, new and returning, must register each year.) Familiarize yourself with this year's Certification Guide.
Step 2: Conduct your school’s Initial EcoReviews and input results into your online certification application by January 31, 2012 —
Step 3: Implement your EcoSchools action plans/activities and conduct your school’s Follow-up EcoReviews at least 3 months after your Initial EcoReviews.
Step 4: Complete the online application by answering all applicable questions and input the data from the Follow-up EcoReviews by April 30, 2012. Review the Application Summary page and then click on “Submit to Ontario EcoSchools.” (Please note: schools need to claim a minimum of 50 points to receive an assessment.)
Step 5: Assemble all portfolio requirements by April 30 — listed on the Application Summary page — needed to support your application. Schools have the option to collect either a Paper Portfolio Duotang or to participate in the Paperless Portfolio and upload all documents into the application. . If you are participating in the Paperless Portfolio, upload all your required portfolio documents into your application by April 30.
Where do I send my Paper Portfolio Duotang? Your board representative will advise you if you should send your portfolio to the board office or keep it at the school.
Important note: CDs/DVDs, memory sticks, websites or other electronic media cannot be submitted as portfolio/supporting documents.
Certification Deadlines:
- January 31st – Input results from the Initial EcoReviews (questions 2.1-2.9 and 3.1-3.10) into the application.
- April 30th – Complete all applicable questions, input results from the Follow-up EcoReviews, finalize and submit the application.
